Dracula vs. Twilight's Vampire Generation

Vampires are now becoming a genre widely known in today's society. The image of vampires though has changes dramatically however. With Bram Stoker's vampire, Dracula was the king of all vampires. In the 1990's when the film "Dracula" came out, a vampire was feared and something not to be messed with. Dracula was apart of the horror genre of film, involving death, bloody scenes, succumbing to the darkness or evil that is "Dracula". Now we have vampires from the book and film called "Twilight". This new generation of vampire is now trying to appeal to the celebrity sense of looks and less about the horror and terror that a vampire instills among the population.

In the image above you see the old school vampire; his appearance is scary with the woman in front of him covering his eyes implying fear. On the right we have Twilight's vampire, he looks a little pale with stylish hair and the woman next to him make me think this is about some kind of drama instead of some horror film involving vampires.

The way these two genres of vampires are different is how they influenced our society when they came out in the media. When Dracula came out our vampire fad that came out were known as the "Goth" fad. Goths were kids who dressed in black attire with the black makeup and favored misery or despair. Goth kids became apart of our social groups in school, the jock crowd, the cheerleader click, the band members, etc. The fad took after the vampire image, surrounding by darkness and when it first came out, it was kind of scary to see a person dressed in some kind of vampire attire. The "twilight" trend that came out with the movie was girls wanting to date vampires and werewolves because they're so hot and dreamy. Our society had a argument about choosing sides, Team Edward or Team Jacob, supporting the vampire's love or supporting the werewolves. Our society made the genre of vampires into a TV's love drama.
